In July 2024, ArenaPetro, Ltd. released the second generation Well Integrity Inspection System (WIIS gen2). On the basis of the previous generation, new product significant upgrades and improvements have been made, from surface software to various downhole measurement sensors, providing users with a more comprehensive, efficient, and accurate wellbore integrity inspection experience.

The second-generation WIIS system adopts the latest developed AXP2.0 logging platform as the acquisition and interpretation software, providing users with more powerful data processing capabilities. The surface acquisition system can be flexibly equipped with AXP600HE/HC or AXP1A surface panels to meet the needs of different scenarios.

For the multifunctional telemetry tool, WIIS gen2 system based on the latest MCM1200 long reach high speed telemetry system, with a transmission rate of over 1Mbps and the ability to achieve long range data transmission of 13000 meters/40000 feet. At the same time, the system also supports the 600kbps version telemetry, with a transmission distance of up to 13000 meters/40000 feet. For single core cables, the MCM300 telemetry system can achieve a maximum transmission rate of 300kbps over a distance of 7000 meters/25000 feet and is expected to achieve a reduced speed operation of 10000 meters/30000 feet. further enhancing the flexibility and reliability of data transmission. In addition, the downhole tool bus has also been upgraded to CAN-FD standard, which can reach 5Mbps and transmit more sensor data.

It is worth mentioning that the gyroscopes have become a standard configuration of the WIIS gen2 system. Compared to the optional configuration of the WIIS first generation system, this change will provide users with more accurate wellbore inclination and tool face orientation information in cased wells, which is beneficial for measuring perforation orientation and fiber optic orientation outside the casing.

The multifunctional acoustic tool used for measuring CBL/VDL can be upgraded to an octal sector tool to further improve circumferential resolution and respond more sensitively to defects at the first and second interfaces of the cement sheath.

For the ultrasonic hole imaging tool, the WIIS gen2 system has made significant improvements. Structurally, a near probe centralizer has been added, and the specifications and models have become more diverse. The D9X series can be produced in specifications such as 89mm, 90mm, or 92mm; The D7X series can be produced in specifications of 70mm, 73mm, or 76mm; The D5X series can be produced in specifications ranging from 51mm to 58mm, meeting the needs of different wellbore sizes. In addition, by improving the circuit, the new tool can perform well logging in mud with densities of 2.0g/cm3 or even higher, greatly expanding its applicability.

In addition, the supporting auxiliary tools have also been comprehensively optimized and improved. The cable head, rotating sub, knuckle joint, and centralizer have all been adjusted according to the on-site usage situation, solving the reliability problems of long-term use and the difficulties in adjusting the centralized force when the wellbore size changes.

The interpretation software has also been improved, the standard operating procedures and data processing methods have been optimized, and the interpretation accuracy has been significantly improved. Due to the use of parallel computing technology, on multi-core computers, the speed of image data processing by interpretation software can be increased by more than ten times than before, greatly improving the efficiency.

The scope of use of the second-generation WIIS system has been expanded to include perforation quality evaluation, optical fiber positioning detection behind the casing, and other aspects. At the same time, the system can also be equipped with an attenuation rate imaging sub to achieve high-order functions of cement sheath evaluation, solving the logging and evaluation problems of difficult and complicated problems such as low-density cement, double-layer casing, fiberglass casing, and casing eccentricity.

During the construction of highly inclined and horizontal wells, the system can use crawlers or cable through continuous oil pipes to get tools to the target layer; For D5X series tools, adding batteries and storage modules allows for storage logging, further enhancing the system's applicability and flexibility. The maximum working temperature of downhole tools has been expanded from 175degC to 200degC. According to user needs, tools of 230degC grade can also be produced, with maximum working pressures of 100MPa or 140MPa respectively.

In the design and manufacturing process of the second-generation system, ArenaPetro, Ltd. re evaluated and screened the supply chain of spare parts, eliminated a batch of suppliers with substandard quality, and introduced suppliers with reliable products and supply chains. This measure has fully prepared the second-generation Well Integrity Inspection System for stable production, high-quality delivery, and customer service in the next decade.

Over the past decade, the first generation of WIIS products has created significant social and commercial value. WIIS gen2 is based on ArenaPetro, Ltd.'s thirty years experiences in data acquisition, software, hardware, and mechanical design, as well as twenty years of research and manufacturing achievements in logging systems and ultrasonic imaging logging tools. Its release marks another big step forward for ArenaPetro, Ltd. in wellbore integrity inspection technology, providing powerful and flexible analysis tools for Well Integrity Inspection and Evaluation in industries such as petroleum, coalbed methane, hot dry rock, geothermal, and hot springs.

The 92mm outer diameter 175degC product of WIIS gen 2 is expected to be put into production and launched for sale in the fourth quarter of this year. We look forward to further communication and cooperation with you!
