Since 2024, ArenaPetro, Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as ArenaPetro), based on ArenaPetro's WIIS Well Integrity Inspection System, has successfully completed multiple wells of downhole optical fiber positioning outside casing in multiple oilfields in North and East China.

The downhoel optical fiber positioning measurement technology outside casing is based on ArenaPetro's latest second-generation Well Integrity Inspection System (referred to as WIIS gen2), which can identify various specifications of optical cables with shell materials such as 6.35mm to 11x22mm steel armoring or plastic sealing. Compared with several existing domestic solutions based on electromagnetic measurement or signal marker measurement methods, the WIIS system is much superior and the advantages are:

1. Time-saving: The optical fiber rail can be continuously identified for the entire well section, and the depth resolution is 5mm(0.2 inch) and the angular resolution is 2 deg to 5 deg(according to different well deviation).

2. Cost-saving: No additional processes need to be added for the laying of the optical cable, and no magnetic materials (beacons, etc.) need to be added to the optical cable.

3. Simple process: One logging run can complete multiple logging projects such as the azimuth trajectory of the optical cable, casing damage imaging, casing thickness, cementing quality, and azimuth perforation evaluation.

4. With a built-in gyroscope, it can provide accurate azimuths of the optical fiber or perforation holes.

5. Withstand a temperature of 175 degC, and the tool can be customized with a temperature tolarence of 200 degC or higher.

6. Support logging in horizontal wells and highly deviated wells.

With the increased attention and popularity of downhole distributed optical fiber monitoring technology in China, optical fiber positioning outside casing has become a key link necessary to ensure the safety of optical fibers and an indispensable technology for the quality evaluation of azimuth perforations.

From 2022 to the first half of 2024, ArenaPetro spent two and a half years to research and develop the optical fiber positioning product and completed multiple well logging jobs in multiple domestic oilfields. Especially for an important highly deviated branch well, ArenaPetro team carried out two rounds of logging jobs and data comparison for a certain oilfield customer before and after directional perforation, and received praise from the oilfield customer.

In the future, ArenaPetro will continue striving to research and develop new products, new technologies, and new processes to actively meet the logging needs of customers in various domestic and overseas regions.
