These downhole fiber optic locating services are another successful case of ArenaPetro in a certain oilfield in Northwest China, following its successful operations in North China and East China oilfields in the first half of 2024, and has achieved multiple technological breakthroughs:

High accuracy: In a northwest China oilfield, many times of ultrasonic imaging downhole fiber optic locating services were carried out continuously for wells that are 6000 meters in depth.

Good repeatability: All constructions have obtained fiber optic imaging and azimuth data for the entire well section, and accurate retesting results are required to meet customer requirements.

High logging efficiency: In this round of logging, ArenaPetro actively attempted to increase the speed of the WIIS system fiber locating mode from 90 meters/hour to 180 meters/hour, and it has been verified that the measurement results and their accuracy can still be guaranteed at higher speeds, with 50% or even 100% room for acceleration.

Solved the customer's pain point: In this round of logging, the customer also arranged for a comparison based on an electromagnetic tool to measure fiber orientation. However, in the current process of fiber optic cementing outside deep well casing in China, the high temperature at the bottom of the well and the magnetization of the fiber optic protective sleeve may occur in local depth sections. Only WIIS can completely avoid this (including abnormal geomagnetic field and other well conditions) and obtain complete fiber optic position data.
The downhole fiber optic locating service technology is based on ArenaPetro's latest Well Integrity Inspection System (WIIS), which can identify various specifications of optical cables with shell materials such as 6.35mm~11x22mm steel armor or plastic encapsulation. Compared with several electromagnetic measurement or beacon point logging methods currently used in China, the advantages of using WIIS system for logging are:
1. Time-saving: The fiber optic rail can be continuously identified for the entire well section, and the depth resolution is 5mm(0.2 inch) and the angular resolution is 2 deg to 5 deg(according to different well deviation).
2. Cost-saving: No additional processes need to be added for the laying of the optical cable, and no magnetic materials (beacons, etc.) need to be added to the optical cable.
3. Simple process: One logging run can complete multiple logging projects such as the azimuth trajectory of the optical cable, casing damage imaging, casing thickness, cementing quality, and azimuth perforation evaluation.
4. With a built-in gyroscope, it can provide accurate azimuths of the fiber optic or perforation holes.
5. Withstand a temperature of 175 degC, and the tool can be customized with a temperature tolerance of 200 degC or higher.
6. Support logging in horizontal wells and highly deviated wells. Especially, it can be completely unaffected by wellbore conditions such as magnetic/magnetized casing or fiber optic protective sleeve (clip) and abnormal geomagnetic field.
With the increased attention and popularity of downhole distributed fiber optic monitoring technology in China, fiber optic locating service has become a key link necessary to ensure the safety of fiber optics and an indispensable technology for the quality evaluation of azimuth perforations.
From 2022 to the second half of 2024, ArenaPetro spent three years researching and developing the fiber optic locating product and completed multiple well logging jobs in multiple domestic oilfields.
